Holiday High Tea at Portland’s Heathman Restaurant

December 21, 2015 By Carrie Uffindell Leave a Comment

Blending both sweet and savory treats, a steaming cup of tea, festive cheer and good friends, holiday high teas are one of my favorite traditions this time of year. So when I learned of the Heathman Restaurant’s annual Holiday Tea, I made reservations to go.

View of High Tea ParlorWhen my friend and I arrive, the friendly staff whisks us back to Heathman’s historic tea court, one of the original features of the c. 1927 hotel. All around us the Eucalyptus-paneled walls, marble fireplace and Austrian hand-cut chandelier are decked out in elegant yuletide splendor. In the corner by the stairs stands a 20-foot tall Christmas tree.

Three Tiered Tea TrayOur pots of tea arrive, along with a three-tiered tray laden with scones, savory sandwiches and other delectable treats created by the Heathman’s culinary team. Highlights for me include the smoked chicken salad pita sandwich, goat cheese crostini, lemon tart and a buttermilk scone loaded with frothy mascarpone and strawberry jam.

Tea Setting at High TeaEnjoy a spirited beverage along with your tea? The Heathman offers sparkling wine and spiked sweet punch options as well for an additional charge. Interested in bringing the kids? Children’s teas, called the Peter Rabbit Tea, are also available.

When you go:

Holiday Teas are $32 per person for adults and $14 for kids. They are offered at the Heathman Restaurant until January 3, 2016 with daily seatings available at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Reservations are required.
