Ordering a Pint at ABV Public House

October 26, 2016 By Dena Weigel Bell Leave a Comment

The warm and welcoming scent of hops hits you when you walk into ABV Public House, Hillsboro’s newest brew-centric tap room. This hidden gem of a restaurant is fast becoming an obsession to many who live and work along Portland Metro’s hi-tech corridor.

With 34 drafts on tap and a cooler filled with over 800 bottles of beers, wine, ciders and mead, this independently owned pub has grown from a simple brewing operation to a place where you can enjoy hard-to-find beer. My husband has fallen in love with ABV and recently introduced me to this latest addition to Portland’s famous beer scene.

Beer is everywhere in ABV, including online—as evidenced when my husband turned first to his phone instead of the menu to choose his first pint. Through their automatically updated online leaderboard you can view the full list of beers featured on their rotating taps while you are still sitting in your office. It’s a well-balanced menu with regional favorites, the latest newcomers and a few off-the-wall choices, like the smoky ale my husband chose for his first round.

I went for a lighter, citrusy cider that would go well with the hummus plate I ordered for lunch. From appetizers to desserts, their menu is filled with dishes that have either been created to incorporate great tasting beers into the recipe or to pair well with the flavors on the plate. Fresh ingredients and high-quality meats from the local custom butcher shop “The Meating Place” make each plate a great choice to go along with your drink.

After your meal you can begin your shopping. ABV sells hundreds of beers straight out of their consistently refrigerated cooler (warm beer can degrade quickly, compromising the taste—something the beer aficionados at ABV would never allow). Bring your growler and fill up on the draft you’ve fallen in love with, or plan that party with a keg purchased in their Bottle Shop.

ABV Public House is quickly meeting its goal to sell the best beer in the Portland area, a promise sure to satisfy every beer lover’s obsession.
