About

DENA WEIGEL BELL, Co-Founder, Editor & Contributor

Dena Weigel BellAn avid traveler and cultural history enthusiast, I moved to Portland from the Midwest when I married a native Oregonian. We completed our family with the addition of our daughter and love spending time anywhere on the beautiful Oregon Coast. My professional writing career began as a blogger for a UN accredited NGO, leading to relationships with several regional businesses, including the Washington Lighthouse Organization, Tillamook County Tourism, EuropeUpClose and several others.

CARRIE UFFINDELL, Co-Founder, Editor & Contributor

Carrie Uffindell Head ShotA freelance writer and historian, I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. My love of mountains and forests drew me to Portland, OR, where I’ve lived since 1996. When I’m not writing, I’m exploring Portland or the greater Northwest region with my husband and our young son. In addition to blogging for Everything Portland, I’ve also written for a variety of print and online publications, including Northwest Travel Magazine, CIDERCRAFT Magazine, Metro Parent Magazine, Tillamook Coast, Visit Rainier, EuropeUpClose and Plum Deluxe. I’m also a board member for the Northwest Travel Writers Conference, Travel and Words. To learn more about me or my writing, please visit my website. You can also find me on Twitter and Facebook.

A City of Nicknames

PDX, Rose City, Stumptown, Bridgetown, Beervana, Rip City – these are just a smattering of Portland’s nicknames, inspired by its local history, quirks and characteristics. The city’s official (and perhaps oldest, dating back to the late 19th century) is The City of Roses.
